Visit the Museum Of Kinetic Art
With the opening of the Museum Of Kinetic Art, you can schedule your own private tour for small groups of 10 to 20 people.Your group will enjoy an evening at The Bevelarium with nearly a hundred moving sculptures all made from recycled items—a tiara, bicycle parts, boxing gloves, an old trombone, a badminton racket—thousands of discarded objects. Each machine and mechanical puppet has a unique name: Americana Duck, Lover Boy, Sharka, Chicken Pox and The Thought Launcher. Each sculpture has a purpose too, as the helmets and headdresses, musical instruments, motorized vehicles and mechanical puppets in Schaper’s Surrealistic Pop Science Theater.
Your 1.5 to 2-hour tour includes a full demonstration of all machines and mechanical puppets in the museum, a gizmotronic fanfare of spunk, funk, and kinetic art junk! You’ll meet sculptor, poet and performer Ned Schaper, creator of the magical world of Beveldom. In an intimate setting, we encourage you to ask questions about the museum, the Surrealistic Pop Science Theater, the School of Intuition and Bevelvision Productions. Cost: $300 to $400, depending on the size of the group.
These sculptures were featured in a 2-month solo retrospective exhibition in 2014 at the Tucson Museum of Art called Welcome to Beveldom: Mat Bevel’s Museum of Kinetic Art. For the first time, the Tucson Museum of Art included live performances as part of a solo artist exhibition, with two performances. The kid-friendly exhibition and performances broke all attendance records during this time period for the Tucson Museum of Art.
