Mat Bevel returns to the stage with composer Thom Jordan for one night only, Saturday, December 12 at 7 PM at the Mat Bevel Institute in Tucson.

“Ponder the way to wander away on a drama crusade with me.” — Mat Bevel

After 40 years of performing among his kinetic sculptures, Mat Bevel returns to the stage with a new collaborator. Composer, sound artist and software designer Thom Jordan joins him live, mixing original music and video in real time. Mat delivers his poetry and characters while Thom layers sound and projected images into a portal to the World of Beveldom. Each responds to the other in a shared improvisation, so no performance is ever the same twice.

Surrealistic Pop Science Theater blends poetry, kinetic art, music and science into a ritual for the senses. In a time when words overwhelm and confuse, it invites you to set aside the flood of information and find meaning through your own intuition.

MEET THE CHARACTERS

The performance unfolds inside the World of Beveldom, the lost land of found objects. More than 100 kinetic sculptures, built from thousands of discarded objects, become the sets, costumes, vehicles, instruments and mechanical puppets of the show. Stay after the performance to wander among them.

ABOUT THOM JORDAN

Thom Jordan did graduate research in music technology at Georgia Tech and has worked with Grammy-nominated composer Steve Roach. His sound installation “Thresholds” appears in Sculpture Tucson’s exhibition “Invisible Force: Sound in Sculpture.”
